BETWEEN THE WORLDS isn't like your average roleplaying site. The characters embody one stereotype or another, like the girl next door, or the dark, dangerous guy. If you wish, you can play a character ironically, making fun of his or her behaviour and actions. Or you can make the character more realistic, giving reasons why s/he is like that from his/her history.
Either way, every character has one thing in common: their secret. Something that they would rather die than let others know. Things like, a guy who's been cheating on his wife with her sister. Or a girl who killed her best friend by accident back in junior high.
That's the reason they're trapped in the House. Not that they know that. They're being punished for their past sins, but they aren't the bad guys you may think they are. They're just normal people, scared out of their wits.
Live out this murder mystery horror.
Or die trying.
